It has been a reeeeeeally long time since I have purchased any kind of new electronic. I bought a Gateway laptop the winter after I graduated. This was almost 7 years ago now, so it can safely be said it was a little old and clunky. It got the job done, however. That is, until a couple of weeks ago, when it decided to die on me. The screen had been going out for a while, but now it won’t stay turned on for more than a minute. I think the motherboard went bad.
That wouldn’t be so bad, except for the fact that my desktop went out a few days before that! Same problem, I think it was the motherboard. It turns on, but does nothing. I am very sad about this, because I built it from scratch the summer after I graduated, so again it is about 6 years old. It was very fast back then, and still reasonably so today. Well, until it died.
So, only having access to my wife’s laptop, we decided to go ahead and get something during the whole Cyber Monday thing, since there were some pretty snazzy deals around. I wanted to use half my bonus and build a massive desktop again, but decided against it since we are in need of quite a few things around the house. Instead I purchased a $400 laptop from newegg. It gets the job done and then some. I sometimes enjoy a video game here and there (only on PC!), and this handles everything pretty well. I am very happy.
